Sid Michaels' Biography
The son of Michael and Irene Kavulich, Sid was born and raised in Taylor, PA. He is a 1974 graduate of Riverside High School, and furthered his education at Williamsport Area Community College, where he earned an Associates’ Degree in Broadcasting.
Upon graduation, he worked for several Northeastern Pennsylvania radio stations, including WCDL in Carbondale, WICK, and WEJL/ROCK 107 in Scranton.
In 1981, he began a television career that would bring him into the homes of Northeastern and Central Pennsylvania for more than 25 years.
He has written, edited and produced broadcast presentations which featured such honored sports figures as former heavyweight boxing champions Muhammed Ali, Larry Holmes, Joe Frazier and Mike Tyson. He has been widely recognized for his coverage of NASCAR and the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) motor sports, and his 30 minute profile of local Hall of Fame drag racing champion Joe Amato was singled out by the Eastern Motorsports Press Association as one of the best in the country. During his television and radio broadcasting career, Sid has covered nearly every major sporting event in the world, including baseball’s World Series the Major League Baseball All-Star Game, the Super Bowl, NASCAR Daytona 500 and Brickyard 400, PGA Championship and several world boxing championship fights.
Sid has also served as General Manager of Saint Ann’s Media at Saint Ann’s Basilica in Scranton, PA., helping bring the broadcast of the Roman Catholic Mass to national TV audience via the Charlotte (N.C.) based Inspiration Network, the only Catholic Mass broadcast on that particular network. Among Sid’s other accomplishments at Saint Ann’s was the production and broadcast of the Mass from such locations as Niagara Falls, N.Y., Orlando, Florida, and Oberammergau, Germany. During his tenure, Saint Ann’s Media also traced the historic journey of the late Pope John Paul II in the Middle Eastern Holy Land region, broadcasting from the sites visited by the Holy Father.
As a former communications specialist for the Pennsylvania Democratic Senate Communications Office, Sid has gained valuable experience in understanding our Commonwealth’s legislative process.
Sid is currently involved with several civic organizations, including Catholic Social Services of the Diocese of Scranton, where he served as president. He is also a member of Broadway Theatre League of Northeastern Pennsylvania, the Abington Rotary and the Stephanie Jallen Group.
He resides in Taylor with his wife, Linda. They are the proud parents of daughters Loni Kavulich-Loiselle and Ariel, and son Zachary.
